Vice Foreign Minister Song Tao Meets with Pakistani Delegation to Consular Consultations

On February 2, 2010, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Song Tao met with the visiting Pakistani delegation to the third round of China-Pakistan bilateral consultations on consular affairs headed by Jamshed Iftakhar, director general of East Asia & Pacific Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan. Director General Wei Wei of the Department of Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, and a Counsellor of the Pakistani Embassy in China were present at the meeting.

Song expressed welcome for the Pakistani delegation to come to China for consular consultations. Describing Pakistan as an all-weather partner of China, Song said China attaches great importance to developing ties with Pakistan and the two countries are good neighbors, good friends and good brothers. Bilateral ties have withstood various tests over the years and have always maintained a sound momentum of development. China attaches importance to developing bilateral consular ties which have positively contributed to the continuous development of personnel, economic and trade exchanges between the two countries with the joint efforts of both sides. He believed that this round of consultations will help to build up mutual understanding and cooperation between the two sides and address their respective concerns in personnel, economic and trade exchanges. He expressed hope that both sides will actively implement the consensus reached at the current consultations and deepen consular ties to push forward bilateral friendly relations.

Echoing Song's comments on bilateral ties, Iftakhar said the Pakistan-China friendship is higher than mountain and deeper than sea. He is ready to work with his Chinese counterparts to enhance exchanges and cooperation in all areas, provide facilitation for economic, trade and personnel exchange through enhanced consular contacts and make new contributions to bilateral friendship.
